2021 Recipient of The Deborah Smith Scholarship Fund
November 2021 we presented one local high school student from PHS with a bursary from “The Deborah Smith Scholarship Fund” to continue on with her education as a registered nurse. Congratulations to Emma Beaudoin.
I started the Pontiac Nursing Program in August 2013. In June 2015, I had baby and decided to continue with my dream of becoming a nurse, despite this new challenge, and continued in the program at the Hull campus. I received the Debbie Smith Memorial Bursary in the fall of 2015. It helped me so much with my expenses for my winter semester with my books, parking at school as well as parking at the hospital for clinical and my travelling expenses. I will be returning to Hull for the winter 2017 semester to take medical surgical nursing as I was unsuccessful this last semester. I am hoping to take it in the fall but currently the program is full.
I did not know Debbie personally but my mother knew her and told me she was a very kind woman and a great nurse. I also had the pleasure of meeting Susan, her sister, when she awarded me with the Bursary last fall. She shared a story with me that is similar to my situation and her story gave me hope for pursuing my dreams of becoming a nurse. It is a very intense program but I know with hard work and dedication, I will get there one day and I am so proud and honored to be able to say that Debbies memorial Bursary has helped me with getting toward that day. Thank you so much for that.
